What
is JJIF ?
The
JJIF is the international forum for Ju-Jitsu where the National
Official Sport Authorities can debate issues related to
the practice of Ju-Jitsu in order to establish International
Programmes and activities, and in order to elect the institutions,
which will implement them. As JJIF is Full Member of GAISF
(General Assembly of International Sports Federations) and
IWGA (International World Games Association) it is the only
governing body of Ju-Jitsu worldwide.
What
are the purposes ?
JJIF's
formal scope is to gather Jutsukas from all Countries, and
to develop a spirit of friendship and internal assistance
among formal Ju-Jitsu Organisations all over the world.
JJIF coordinates international activities of Ju-Jitsu, establishes
technical and organisational rules, organises and controls
international events, represents Ju-Jitsu worldwide and
makes decisions on possible controversial matters.
When
was JJIF Established ?
In
1977, following a joint initiative from Germany, Italy and
Sweden, the EUROPEAN JU-JITSU FEDERATION (EJJF) was founded.
Ten years later in 1987, when all the main European Countries
were already members of EJJF the scope of the initiative
was expanded to the worldwide scenario.
In fact, in 1987, the International Assembly founded the
International Ju-Jitsu Federation, whilst EJJF continued
its activity becoming one of Continental Unions within IJJF,
as EJJU.
On
30th of July 1998 an extraordinary Congress in Malaga (ESP)
the International Ju-Jitsu Federation accepted the new name
of Ju-Jitsu International Federation and the new abbreviation
JJIF.
